I’ve always loved Doctor Who, ever since I was little.  Hiding behind a cushion to defend myself against Daleks and Cybermen was standard behaviour whenever my sister and I heard the Tardis wail!  When NewWho arrived on the scene, I was of course hooked.  I thought Eccleston did a fantastic job regenerating the classic BBC program.  Of all the Doctors my favourite has been Peter Capaldi. Sure, David Tennant does a fantastic job of running down a corridor and Matt Smith’s fish fingers and custard was adorably quirky.  Capaldi brought the chaotic intensity and eccentricity that I’ve always thought the character needed.  Of course everyone has an opinion about goings on in the Whoniverse, all of which are wrong and right in equal measures.
 
My portrait of Capaldi was one of those wonderful times as a painter that I managed to capture him in a flurry of strokes, and it worked first time!  I think it captures the essence of Capaldi, his intelligence, charisma and mischievousness.  Peter agreed when I met him at Monopoly Midlands comic con, but that’s another story (read it in our blog)
