Skellingtons from the closet.

One of our lovely patrons got in touch with me to ask for a favour. He wanted a commission from me for a special birthday. They wanted me to redraw one of my old pictures, which I very rarely do, but they are one of our long-time supporters, so of course, I said yes.

"Jack Skellington and Sally" was the picture lined up for renovation. I had based this on "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt, the Art Nouveau painter. This is such an iconic painting that most people recognise it without knowing its title. I used the loving embrace to pose Jack and Sally, then I took the curly hills from Tim Burtons movie and decorated it with Klimts geometric patterns. The sky used the swirls found in Klimts paintings to finish the composition off.

This is the painting I did many moons ago, using watercolour and inks.

I reproduced the original inks

Then went to work on the watercolours, Sally first.

The more watercolours for Jack and the sky. A little pencil was used to add form to the characters, and a Sharpie was used to add swirls to the sky.

As I said earlier, it's been a while since the original was drawn. It's a subtle difference, but I much prefer the new version. The colours are richer and the lines more confident than my older version.I hope you enjoyed this insight.

Cheers for now
