Here's the final WIP our Avenger pictures, Thor the last on the list of original Avengers. So far we have done, Tony Stark's Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner aka the Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Chris Evans as Captain America.
The person who commissioned Thor specifically wanted the short haired version of the Viking god. Mrs Brambledown was more than happy with any version of Chris Hemsworth! I wanted the inclusion of a symbol of sorts and so I put Mjolnir into the background. The version I chose was a representation of the one dug up in Skane in 1895, thought to date back to the 10th Century. I used an acrylic paint pen to add the detail over then pencil work.
Next I had to paint the background, I opted for a stone look. I spent ages texturing the background so it looked "stone like". Mrs Brambledown then helpfully pointed out that it looked too realistic compared to the stylised way I had done all the previous pictures in this series.... So I scrapped the work I'd done already and painted over the entire days work I'd already done with a more stylised version of Mjolnir. It's all good practice eh??
With the background finished it was onto the most important part, getting the face right! Thankfully he's got an eyepatch on, so I didn't have to worry about getting both eyes pointed in the same direction!
Next job was to do the main body, in keeping with the rest of the Avengers set, I kept the everything quite geometrical and unblended,
Finally it was time to add a little colour to make the monochrome pop! Red and lightning blue seem to be the main colours for Thor. The intensity of the red in his cape against the grey is gorgeous! I had intended to put lightning bolts and electrical arcs around him but I think less is more in this case.
