I have run a lot of Call of Cthulhu over the years and so rather than choose a character of my own I’ll choose a villain; Carl Sanford one of the villains from Shadows of Yog-Sothoth. In Cthulhu there are no dragons to fight with and quite often the best action is to run away from a fight rather than take on a bad guy. The players had no idea of how to deal with Sanford and I had so much fun playing around with him using him as an ally and a bogyman. I think particularly effective when running a campaign to have the villains behave proactively as well as reactively.
Also he's a smug prick....
